A tragic situation unfolds as a third suspect in the Empire Avenue murder case is currently unable to respond to the charges against him.
Nine days after the heartbreaking events that led to the death of a St. John's man, the legal process faces a significant hurdle. Forty-seven-year-old Doug Yetman, one of the suspects in the case, remains hospitalized. After the police closed in last Tuesday night, he was rushed to the hospital, reportedly with self-inflicted injuries.
But here's where it gets complicated... Court officials have stated that due to his injuries and the need for sedation, no one has been able to communicate with Yetman since his admission. This also means a judge hasn't been able to formally read the charges to him.
Two other individuals, 42-year-old Darryl Little and 28-year-old Peter Campbell, are also facing charges related to the murder of a 41-year-old man at a residence on Empire Avenue West on December 21. They are currently in custody, with their court dates scheduled for January 14.
Yetman's case was brought before the court on Monday afternoon, and it will be revisited this morning. The purpose is to provide an update on his condition and determine his fitness to address the murder charges.
